RSS - What is it?
I thought it might be a good idea to put an explanation of this feature since before I had a website I had no idea what this was -- and I'm sure there must be others who don't know either.
You are most likely familiar with "bookmarking" which is what people used to do before RSS. So, if I liked a website and wanted to come back to it, I would bookmark it. That worked great for a while, but once I racked up a long list of bookmarked sites, I began to lose track of new posts or other activity on those sites.
One thing that's different than simply bookmarking sites is that with RSS I know right away when something new gets posted on the sites that I'm interested in.
This is how it works for me. I go to a site that where I like the content and want to be updated when they put new stuff on it. I simply choose the RSS feed, and since I have a Google home page, I choose the RSS feed that connects to Google. The next morning, or the next time I log onto my Google home page, I have all the current information on the site right there on my home page. That way I can glance quickly at anything that might interest me. It's pretty easy and convenient, and once you get started with it, if you're like me, you'll get hooked.
I like Oprah's explanation of RSS -- "Ready for Some Stories." That's a great way of describing it. Whenever I'm ready to read some stories I go to my home page, and it's customized with MY information -- stuff that I want to read about and organized neatly.
So, if you like what's written here, I hope you'll consider subscribing. It's so easy, requires absolutely no technical ability, and it will bring you back here really easily whenever you choose.
