Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine looks at the body with regard to heat and balance, and chi. Since I believe there is value to be found in nearly all natural approaches to healing, I think the Chinese medicine/depression approach regarding personality types to be very useful.

I have found accupuncture to be an exceptional way to deal with stress and anxiety. The only real difference is that rather than use Chinese herbs, I use essential oils, simply because I've found essential oils to be much more effective.

For example, 1 drop of therapeutic-grade peppermint oil is the equivalent of 28 cups of peppermint herb tea. I am able to use a single drop of essential oil in order to make a change in my body. Essential oils are VERY potent medicines.

Chinese Medicine , Depression, and the Five Elements

According to Chinese medicine, the human personality can be categorized broadly into five basic elements:

Water

A tendency towards fear, generally quiet and shy.

Wood

Tendency for discouragement. Can become depressed. Angry, defensive, impatient.

Fire

Tendency toward anxiety, nervousness. Easily burnt-out, overwhelmed.

Earth

Anxiety, nervousness, tendency to be oversympathetic.

Metal

Tendency to ignore our own grief and sadness.

Essential Oil to Support Mood for the Five Elements

For WATER types, kidney support is important, and the essential oil blends Valor and Live with Passion are valuable for emotional support.

For WOOD types, liver support is important. According to Chinese medicine, the liver is where we store our emotions. Repressed anger is depression.

The essential oil blends for WOOD types are: Release, Forgiveness, Surrender, Present Time, JuvaCleanse, and other supplements for liver support.

For FIRE types, the essential oils Envision, Present Time, Joy, and Hope are beneficial for balancing mood.

For EARTH types, Release, Inspiration, Joy, Gratitude, and essential oils such as Di-Gize and Peppermint to support the stomach and spleen are beneficial.

METAL types benefit from lung and colon support, as well as essential oil blends Live with Passion, Release, and Joy.
